COMMUNITY SERVICE
Thank you to those who have donated items. Please know that each item is appreciated. I hope that you will continue to support our efforts. Please let me know If you need labels for the wheelchair caddies and the quilts.
CBQ continues to donate to five designated charities. Here is a description of the requests from each organizaton:
Ronald McDonald House has a strong need for children's pillowcases. Bright, colorful, and cheerful are the preferred themes. They would also like to have enough knit caps to offer one to each patient during the holidays. Soft, non scratchy yarn is the best option and all caps must be in child sizes. Please, no metallic threads or attached embellishments. At this time, there is no need for quilts.
The VA Hospital is eager to accept wheelchair caddies and knit caps. The caddies are coveted accessories for those that have limited mobility. Although some caps are used for inpatients, most of them will go to the homeless outreach program. Let's make enough adult sized caps so that every veteran on the street looks warm and festive. Wheelchair quilts may be accepted but they have no need for larger quilts.
San Bernardino County Social Services is always eager to accept quilts and knit caps for children and teens in their care. CBQ is also creating tote bags for their clients. Please contact Phyllis Ratteley regarding the totes.
The Santa Claus, Inc representative is our own Mary Aslanis. They always need quilts, pillowcases, and knit caps. Community Services collects only these items for them. Contact Mary if you wish to donate toys or other types of goods.
Loma Linda Children's Hospital is still one of our designated charities but they have not been accepting hand made items since the covid epidemic. This may change in the future.
The recipient organizations have asked us to omit using fabrics that have holiday themes, food themes, religious themes, and metallic threads. Quilts must be quilted and not tied. Particularly for children, do not add embellishments like buttons to your creations.

Featured Quilt Pattern of the Month:
Positive Effect (sample pictured below)
In the heat of the summer, this is a great time to make this quilt! When complete, it measures 58 x 72 but can be made smaller by putting together fewer blocks.
CBQ provides this pattern (below), if you just want to use up your own stash to create this quilt (because that’s appreciated too!)
