Community Service
Citrus Belt Quilters has a long-standing tradition of partnering with area organizations to provide quilts for those in need.
The talent and generosity of our members has resulted in the donation of thousands of quilts over the past four decades. Since 1981,
CBQ has lovingly provided quilts (and other items) to:
Ronald McDonald House (Loma Linda)
Loma Linda Children’s Hospital
Loma Linda VA Hospital
San Bernardino County Children and Family Services
Santa Claus Inc
CBQ members are generous with their time and materials. Other items created for donation include:
Wheelchair caddies
Fidget quilts (for Alzheimer’s patients)
Surgery caps
Pillow cases
Knit and crochet caps, beanies, booties and baby layettes
Doll quilts
As of June 2024
Ten of your quilts were delivered to Ronald McDonald House last month. I took an opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about their purpose. There are several Ronald McDonald Houses in California and the local facility is across the street from Loma Linda Hospital. The building resembles a large hotel and has 53 rooms available to families who have hospitalized children. A fully stocked commercial kitchen is available for their meal preparation. Several rooms are set up with toys, games, computers, and entertainment, whether it's for small children or adults. Outdoors is a playground, barbeque station, and covered sitting area. Parents are required to spend at least eight hours each day with their hospitalized child. $12.00 is the daily room charge, which includes the kitchen and all food. The length of stay is unlimited. A family from South Africa stayed here for a year while their daughter recovered from a BlackMamba bite. Ronald McDonald House has always been the recipient of generous individual and corporate donations, both financial and material goods. The building's basement is a warehouse of donated food, bedding, clothing, and just about anything else and they rarely lack for much. At this time however, they were in need of boy related quilts and we were fortunate enough to provide the quilts they wanted.

Charity Quilt Patterns Are Available to CBQ Members
Featured Quilt Pattern of the Month:
Positive Effect (sample pictured below)
In the heat of the summer, this is a great time to make this quilt! When complete, it measures 58 x 72 but can be made smaller by putting together fewer blocks.
CBQ provides this pattern (below), if you just want to use up your own stash to create this quilt (because that’s appreciated too!)
