COMMUNITY SERVICE
Congratulations, members! Santa Claus, Inc. requested pillowcases, and you delivered! Mary Aslanis, our SCI representative, accepted a box of donations that included 40 pillowcases, 8 quilts, and an assortment of child-related handiworks. Good job, members! In addition to SCI, Ronald McDonald House can always use pillowcases.
Several people are making wheelchair caddies and adult knit caps for hospitalized and/or homeless veterans. Good job again! Other members are creating child-sized knit caps that are appreciated by County Social Services. Kudos!
Quilts are always needed at County Social Services and Santa Claus, Inc., so we will always have a need for child- and teen-themed quilts. At this time, neither the VA nor Ronald McDonald House is accepting quilts. Remember—quilts must be quilted, not tied. Fabric must be cotton, and please avoid religious, holiday, and food themes. Do not add embellishments like buttons, lace, or any decoration that can be torn off or eaten.
I will relinquish the Community Services chair in June. A list of duties for this position was posted in last month's newsletter. This is a pleasant and rewarding position, and you will bring a fresh perspective to the program. Please call or email me if you want to learn more about the position.
Here is a great opportunity for you to direct some of your energy toward CBQ and the surrounding community. I will be vacating the Chair of Community Services at the end of this fiscal year (June). Unlike the past two years, I will not continue in this role if no one else steps up. Please consider taking on this easy and fulfilling position. Below is a general overview of the duties:

- Purchase (with reimbursement) and provide quilt labels for all donated quilts and wheelchair caddies. Inspect each item to ensure the label is properly attached when donated.
- Set up a donation table at general meetings and provide a sign-in sheet for donors.
- Give a brief update on donation statistics and related news, both orally at general meetings and through written articles for the newsletter.
- Store donated items in a clean, smoke-free, pet-free environment until they are distributed.
- Deliver donated items to approved charities, some of which require appointments for delivery.
- Maintain paperwork, including general meeting sign-in sheets, receipt forms from donors, and thank-you letters.
- Optional features I added: organize a raffle for donors at general meetings, host community service workshops, and create quilt kits. You are free to make this position as big or as small as you want.

Featured Quilt Pattern of the Month:
Positive Effect (sample pictured below)
In the heat of the summer, this is a great time to make this quilt! When complete, it measures 58 x 72 but can be made smaller by putting together fewer blocks.
CBQ provides this pattern (below), if you just want to use up your own stash to create this quilt (because that’s appreciated too!)
